At the end of May, from 25 to 28th, Ronda Romántica will recreate the Royal May Fair, founded in 1509, with an event that brings back to the ‘Dreamed City’ stories of bandits, soldiers, blunderbusses and passion.
Turismo de Ronda has presented the dates and promotional video for the 2017 edition of Ronda Romántica, an historic recreation that takes place during the Royal May Fair, turning bandits, soldiers, blunderbusses and passion into protagonists of the city and its natural surroundings. At the end of the month of May, from 25 to 28th, the city comes back to the XIX Century, a time where Ronda was a sanctuary for the Andalusian banditry, with an event that proposes livestock and horses exhibitions, a taste of its gastronomic jewels (wine, olive oil, cheese… ) and a lot of different activities.
Digging into the history of Ronda, the Royal May Fair was given by the Queen ‘Juana the 1st’ as a royal privilege, “forever after”, in 1509. It was one of the most famous and visited fairs all over Spain and in the XIX Century it was considered as the greatest Andalusian celebration. In fact, there is a lot of both European and North American testimonies of that time, that described it perfectly.
The precision of these chronicles is the main reason of the idea of recreating historically the Royal May Fair, bringing back its romantic ambience merging the May Fair in itself and its recreation under the name of “Ronda Romántica”, a great cultural and ethnographic celebration that represents all the towns and villas of Ronda’s famous ‘Serranía’.
And since we are going back to the times of the Spanish Reconquest, there is no better place for enjoying Ronda Romántica than B bou Hotel Molino del Arco, and old farmhouse-mill that also gathers amazing stories that date back to that time…
